Trash Hero is an energetic, volunteer-led movement that drives change within communities around the world, motivating and supporting them to clean and prevent plastic waste. The movement started in Thailand in 2013 and has now grown to 170+ local groups, or “chapters”, across Southeast Asia, Europe and beyond.
Our activities focus around a weekly community cleanup that invites people to experience the plastic problem first hand; provides a forum to talk about solutions; and keeps the issues high on the local agenda. In parallel, we run programmes designed to stop the problem at the source: a water bottle refill network; children’s education programme; and volunteer training to support local zero waste projects.
Trash Hero World is registered as a non-profit association in Switzerland. We are a global network, yet we believe passionately that change must come from within a community. All our chapters are started and run by volunteers who are local residents, and never from the outside in. We are committed to providing knowledge and training in local languages and respectful of the cultural context. In this way, we can bring the Plastic Health Coalition’s important research to new – and key – audiences on the frontline of the plastic crisis.
